The thunder gods were angry, the lightning was flashing brilliantly across the skies, a deluge of monsoon-like rain was pouring frigidly from the skies, the game was delayed for forty-five minutes and then they kicked it off. It looked like the scene from "The Hobbit" where the thunder gods hurl boulders across the mountains at each other. Both teams played all out. Nothing was left off as the defenses crashed into their foes and the offenses slung all their arrows into the fray. A break here, a bounce there, many slippery mishandlings later and they were tied at the end of regulation play.

In the first overtime, the Bears rammed it straight down the field and scored the touchdown. Then the captain took over and did what he has done all year before he was hurt; when they had to score, he led them down to a score for the tie. Starting over he led them back and threw the go ahead touchdown toss to the awesome freshman.

Second TD in OT. The fabulous freshman |
The thunder and the lightning stopped, but the frigid rain never relented. On fourth and one, the defense evaded the 400 pound crush and the star freshman linebacker stopped the play dead. One yard short, oh victory, how sweet it is.

Had to make it to the white line for a first down. |

The purple sea of faithful followers swarmed onto the field and sang to their heroes, the perfect song of victory over incredible odds, the sweet song of joy and vindication. Reprisal from a season past, singing in the rain.
